課程概述

This course is designed to be a project-based course that aims to provide fundamentals and hands-on experiences about Neurolinguistics research. This course will cover relevant literature review, and major aspects of experimentation, including experimental design, coding, data-collection, data analysis, and report writing. This course will therefore be a mix of lectures, journal discussion, laboratory sessions, structured discussions and classroom presentations.

課程目標
This course aims to train students on their abilities to conduct a research project independently. Specifically, students will receive trainings on how to
ask well-formulated research questions and form hypothesis
search and review relevant literature
design an experiment that can scientifically and systematically test their research hypothesis
obtain a basic level of competence with the technical aspect of experimentation (programming, data collection and analysis)

課程要求
All students who are planning to register for this class should have a rough research topic in mind or an ongoing project at hand. Those who haven’t are encouraged to discuss with the instructor during the summer such that relevant paperwork (e.g., IRB application) can be initiated in time.
Over the course of the semester, students will be required to come up with a concrete experimental design, collect pilot data and conduct preliminary data analysis.

參考書目
Include in the class schedule is a tentative list of recent journal articles that will provide background knowledge about basic research method and how advanced aging affects meaning selection processes and the lateralization of these processes. However, the reading list is subject to change should students registered for this class have other research interest. One to two papers will be assigned each week.
